The Association of Parliaments of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) member states bring together the national parliaments of the Union of the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles. Originally known as the IOC Association of Parliamentarians, AP-COI now has a new identity: Association of Parliaments of IOC Member States. This change of name is intended to better signify the involvement of institutions such as the National Assemblies in the regional landscape.
The AP-COI is composed of the parliaments of the member states of the IOC, each represented by: The Speaker and three Members of Parliament.
The AP-COI aims to:
- Defend the common interests of the Indian Ocean region.
- Promote the ideals of freedom, equality, peace, stability, justice, and human rights.
- Facilitate connections between member parliamentarians and those from other regions.
- Advance effective democracy.
Its strategic goals include fostering national assemblies, building a structured regional community, enhancing inter-parliamentary contacts, promoting human rights, deepening democracy, supporting the IOC's peace objectives, and defending regional interests.
