The Honourable Philip Monthy was born on the 4th of May 1975 and is the 10th child of a large family of 11.

Hon. Monthy was a dedicated teacher with over 20 years of experience in the education sector. Returning from his studies in Besancon, France, he was sent to teach in Beau Vallon School for six months, he was later transferred to the National Youth Service (NYS) in 1998. As a qualified French teacher, he oversaw the teaching of the French O Level courses. Hon. Monthy briefly moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the United Stated of America where he resided and was employed for three years.

Moving back in Seychelles in 2003, he began a long career at the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) as a French lecturer. Through his commitment and enthusiasm, he was soon appointed the Director of Studies in 2016. To supplement his academic and professional development, Hon. Monthy pursued and completed an online Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership & Management from the University of Mauritius. Before venturing into politics, Hon. Monthy was the Assistant Director of the Seychelles Institute of Distance and Open Learning (SIDOL), occupying the post of Quality Assurance Officer at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE).

In the 2020 elections, Hon. Monthy successfully secured a seat as the Elected Member of Cascade under the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa Party, marking a historic shift as the first Opposition Member to win the constituency of Cascade. During the 7th Assembly Hon. Monthy served as a Member on the Committee of Government Assurances (COGA), the International Affairs Committee (IAC), and Member of the L’Association des Parlements des États members de la Commission de l’ocean Indien (AP-COI).

Hon. Monthy was sworn in as a Member of the 8th Assembly on Tuesday 28th of October 2025, for his second parliamentary mandate. During this mandate he wishes to continue with his initiatives and realise the developments that he started within his district.
