A delegation from the National Assembly of Seychelles' Parliamentary Service attended the 9th Society of Clerks at The Table (SoCATT) Professional Development Seminar held in Gaborone, Botswana from the 9th to 13th March 2026. The delegation comprised of Personal Assistant to the Speaker Ms. Sarifa Maimee, Parliamentary Budget Officer Ms. Ranishaa Chetty, and Committee Clerk Ms. Samia Lebon.

The seminar was centred on strengthening transparency and accountability in public finance management. Participants had the opportunity to explore budget-oversight tools, strong legal frameworks, the role of Parliamentary Budget Offices (PBO), collaborations with civil society, and the importance of staff wellbeing and retirement planning. The sessions also highlighted the importance of parliamentary staff in supporting Members of Parliament, recognising their roles as the “silent engine” behind effective governance.

The discussions concluded with key resolutions aimed at enhancing parliamentary oversight, promoting digital transformation in public financial systems, and strengthening institutional capacity. This mission provided key staff of the Parliamentary Service the opportunity to share experiences with colleagues across the region and adapt to new approaches in improving parliamentary oversight.
