On the afternoon of Wednesday 11th June, the Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Seychelles Her Excellency Mrs. Tran Thi Thu Thin, paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta.

The meeting opened with an exchange of greetings, during which Ambassador Tran conveyed the best wishes of the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam. The Ambassador also took the opportunity to extend an invitation for the Hon. Speaker and Members of the National Assembly of Seychelles to pay an official visit to Vietnam.

The Ambassador and the Speaker discussed her ongoing working visit to Seychelles, including the meetings held with the President of the Republic H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie and other high-level government officials. H.E. Mrs. Tran also spoke on the longstanding relationship between Vietnam and Seychelles, spanning the late 1990s to date. The Ambassador and Hon. Ernesta further discussed the importance of advancing the interests of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and strengthening the level of cooperation between countries facing similar challenges. The Honourable Speaker expressed the need to establish a Parliamentary Friendship Group as a means of enhancing exchanges and building a stronger relationship between the two Parliaments and their Members. She emphasised that such a group could allow for the sharing of resources, information, and parliamentary benchmarking initiatives.

In concluding the meeting, the Speaker and the Ambassador exchanged tokens of appreciation. Hon. Ernesta warmly wished the Ambassador well in her new role, as the meeting came to a close.
