On Friday 20th March 2026, the Defence and Security Committee (DSC), led by Chairperson Hon. Audrey Vidot, held an introductory meeting with the Minister for Homeland Security and Civil Affairs Mr. James Camille. This meeting forms part of the Committee’s ongoing efforts to strengthen parliamentary oversight and foster effective collaboration with key government institutions. The Chairperson was accompanied by Vice-Chairperson Hon. Wilbert Herminie, Hon. Jean Toussaint, Hon. Nelsia Balisa-Lepathy, Hon. Gervais Henrie, Hon. Francois Adelaide, and Hon. Dominic Savy.
Minister Camille and his team provided the Committee with an overview of the various portfolios that fall under the Ministry’s responsibility. These presentations outlined the functions, priorities, and current activities of their respective Departments, offering valuable insights into ongoing programmes and policy areas. In her remarks, Hon. Vidot presented an overview of the DSC mandate which highlighted its role in scrutinising the work and activities of specific Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other stakeholders under their purview. This key oversight role ensures accountability and supports transparent governance across many sectors.
The meeting accommodated a thorough question and answer session in which Committee members were able to put forward various queries, to which the Minister provided detailed responses and clarified on the matters of interest. The DSC expressed looking forward to continued engagement with the Ministry as part of its commitment to fostering productive engagement and effective oversight.
