On the afternoon of Wednesday 25th February 2026, the High Commissioner of Canada to the Republic of Seychelles Mrs. Emily Burns paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta.
The meeting opened with an exchange of pleasant greetings, followed by a brief recap about the introductory visits that Mrs. Burns has recently undertaken during her time in Seychelles. She highlighted that her visit comes at a particularly significant moment for the country, as it coincides with the ongoing national budget deliberations, which are an essential democratic process with the potential to positively shape various aspects of people’s daily lives.
Hon. Ernesta and High Commissioner Burns engaged in discussions on the importance of conducting training and capacity building initiatives for Honourable Members and staff, particularly in relation to the ongoing National Administration Bill and the introduction of new specialised roles. They also took the opportunity to discuss the upcoming projects which the Hon. Speaker aims to pursue during her mandate.
The High Commissioner expressed her sincere appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the Speaker and engage in such meaningful discussions. Hon. Ernesta conveyed her best wishes to Mrs. Burns and wished her an enjoyable and productive stay for the rest of her working mission.
