On the morning of Thursday 12th February 2026, the Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment Mr. Pierre Laporte, delivered the Budget Address for the Appropriation Bill 2026 to the House.
The Minister spoke on the introduction of fiscal and economic policies which are to be implemented in line with the newly incumbent Administration, to ensure the achievement of various targets and achieve a greater standard of social welfare. The highest priorities of the annual financial plan included positively impacting the standards of living in Seychelles, seeing a sustained increase in the productivity of the Employment sector, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
In the context of the evolving world economy, it was noted that the enhancement of the delivery of public services including health, environmental protection, education, and others, was of utmost importance. Special emphasis was also placed on the development of housing infrastructure to address the continued and growing need for affordable accommodations.
The Budget Replies will commence on Tuesday 17th February 2026, with the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Bernard Georges and the Leader of Government Business Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel.
Replies will continue throughout the week, where all Honourable Members will have the opportunity to respond and the Minister will also exercise his Right of Reply to the debate. Subsequently, the House will enter the Committee Stage on the 23rd of February 2026, in which Ministries and Departments will defend their respective budgets in the House.
