On the morning of Thursday 19th February 2026, the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China to the Seychelles Ms. Lin Nan, paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta.
The meeting began with the exchange of greetings during which Ambassador Lin congratulated the Hon. Speaker Ernesta on her appointment as the first female Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles. She expressed confidence that under Speaker Ernesta’s leadership, the National Assembly would continue to strengthen its independence, democratic engagement, and effective governance. Ambassador Lin also took the opportunity to highlight the longstanding and valued relationship between the People’s Republic of China and the National Assembly of Seychelles, placing emphasis on its continued importance through shared values.
Speaker Ernesta reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ongoing cooperation with the Chinese Embassy, building on the strong partnership established over the years. Discussions then turned to the potential for collaboration through future infrastructural developments within the National Assembly precinct, capacity building and sharing of best practices with National Assembly Service staff, as well as the establishment and activation of the 8th Assembly Seychelles–China Friendship Group.
Ambassador Lin conveyed her sincere appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the Speaker and host such fruitful discussions. Hon. Ernesta, in turn, extended her best wishes to Ambassador Lin for the year ahead, before the meeting concluded.
