The President of the Republic of Seychelles H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie delivered the Message on the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on the afternoon of Tuesday 27th January 2026 at 1700hrs.

The President highlighted several critical national issues, such as the elimination of corruption and reform of the criminal justice system, the proposed reclamation of land to address social housing concerns, as well as tackling the advancement of nationwide mental health support systems, among others.

Notably, the development of national human resources is set to be orchestrated through the provision of social aid and financing, as well as technical and vocational training. A call to action was made for the development of inclusive and accessible education processes, including an enhanced centre for the Exceptional Child, and the “My First Job” scheme aimed at entrepreneurship. The values of creativity, courage, and the importance of education were highly emphasised as the necessary facets for the creation of a prosperous and productive nation.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta expressed her gratitude to the President for his Address, before adjourning the Assembly. In line with accessibility measures, the SONA was made available in Lalang Siny Seselwa (LSS) by the Association of People with Hearing Impairment (APHI).
