On Monday 5th January 2026, the Defence & Security Committee chaired by Hon. Audrey Vidot convened for a meeting upon a notice submitted to all Members of the Committee. The meeting took place for Members to deliberate on the recommendation for the appointment of a new Director General of the Seychelles Intelligence Service, Mr. Sabry Khan. The meeting was attended by the Vice- Chairperson Hon. Wilbert Herminie, Hon. Jean Toussaint and Hon. Nelsia Balisa- Lepathy. The Committee was assisted by Committee Clerks Mrs. Florette Monaie and Mrs. Gillian Samson.
This is following the request made by the President of the Republic of Seychelles Dr. Patrick Herminie, pursuant to Section 6 (1) and (2) of the Seychelles Intelligence Agency Act, 2018 (Act 2 of 2019) for the Committee to consider the nomination of Mr Khan. During the meeting, each Member of the Committee provided on the record input on Mr. Khan’s nomination. The input also included his professional work experience, legal background, academic trainings, competency in defence, security, and intelligence, in addition to national and international affiliations within the field of security and intelligence. The Committee will produce an official response which shall be sent to the Office of the Honorable Speaker for onwards submission to the Office of the President.
