The Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles Hon. Azarel Ernesta, officially took her Affirmation of Adherence before the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) Plenary Assembly on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, marking a significant milestone in Seychelles’ parliamentary diplomacy.

The historic event took place during the 58th Plenary Assembly of SADC PF, taking place at the Coastlands Hotel and Convention Centre in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, Durban, South Africa. The Plenary brings together Speakers, Members of Parliament, and parliamentary leaders from across the SADC region to deliberate on key issues affecting governance, democracy, and regional integration. This occasion is particularly noteworthy as it marks the Speaker’s first official mission since the start of her tenure, and her first participation at a SADC PF Plenary Assembly. Her induction into the forum underscores Seychelles’ commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and advancing democratic values within the region.

 

Taking the Affirmation of Adherence


By taking up this role within SADC PF, Hon. Ernesta ensures that the National Assembly of Seychelles will continue to have a strong and influential voice in regional affairs. Her tenure is expected to foster deeper collaboration on legislative matters, promote good governance, and contribute to shaping policies that address pressing socio-economic challenges across Southern Africa. It is important to note that other Members of the National Assembly will soon be appointed as Members of the Forum, further reinforcing Seychelles’ engagement and representation within SADC PF.
