On the afternoon of Friday 12th December 2025, the Auditor General Mr. Gamini Herath presented the Report of the Auditor General 2024 to the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta. This report serves as a key mechanism of accountability and transparency in public finance as it provides an objective assessment of how public funds are managed and used by government entities and public institutions.
Mr. Herath emphasized that sharing the report with the National Assembly helps ensure transparency and accountability in public financial management, keeping the public informed about government operations and the performance of programmes funded through public resources. Appreciation was expressed for the publicization of the work of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) through the National Assembly, particularly through engagements with the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC). The Auditor General noted that although he has yet to meet with the newly constituted FPAC, he looks forward to the collaboration ahead.
Before the meeting concluded, Mr. Herath extended his congratulations to the Hon. Speaker on her appointment to office. With thanks, Hon. Ernesta noted that she looked forward to working closely with the OAG and receiving support and technical expertise in the development and implementation of the Administration Act, which once approved will govern the autonomy of the Legislature.
