Arrival of the President

 

In accordance with Article 92(1) of the Constitution of Seychelles, the President of the Republic of Seychelles H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie addressed the National Assembly on Friday 14th November 2025 at 1700hrs and delivered his first address to parliament following assumption of office.

 

Presidential Address

 

The President commenced his discourse by reflecting on his previous decade-long tenure as Speaker of the National Assembly, noting the privilege of having served in an office that carries both significant responsibility and constitutional independence. He underscored the fundamental importance of safeguarding the autonomy of Parliament and highlighted the proposed reforms to the structural framework, notably through the Administration Act. Emphasis was further placed on the necessity of bipartisan collaboration in fostering a more inclusive and constructive legislative environment.

The Address outlined the key priorities and reforms of the new presidential mandate, including the restoration of the Thirteenth Month Salary system, addressing drug and mental health issues nationwide, the enhancement of remuneration and gratuity frameworks across various sectors, and fiscal measures designed to elevate the standard of living for those most vulnerable, amongst other pertinent topics.

Earlier the same day, the National Assembly approved the nomination of Mr. Wallace Cosgrow as Principal Minister of the Government of Seychelles, in accordance with Article 75(1) of the Constitution of Seychelles.
