On the morning of Wednesday 19th November 2025, the Ambassador of the Republic of France H.E. Mme. Anne Tallineau paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta. The Speaker was accompanied by Clerk to the National Assembly Mrs. Tania Isaac.

Courtesy Call on the Hon. Speaker

Discussions opened with an exchange on the importance of the French language and Francophone culture in Seychelles, with the Hon. Speaker calling for the revival of French language classes aimed at building the professional capacity of Honourable Members and parliamentary staff. With Seychelles currently holding the presidency of the L'Association des Parlements des États membres de la Commission de l’Océan Indien (AP-COI), the promotion and regular use of French will remain vital while conducting engagements. In line with capacity-building priorities, Hon. Ernesta underscored the value of establishing and promoting parliamentary internships for those completing their studies at Francophone institutions, to better understand the role of our legislative system.

The Honourable Speaker further emphasised that during the 8th Assembly, several Friendship Groups would be re-established to better support the National Assembly’s diverse bilateral engagements. Previously, during the 6th Assembly, a Seychelles-France Friendship group had been launched, but now requires reactivation through the International Affairs Committee.

Presentation of Token of Appreciation

Before the meeting concluded, the Hon. Speaker extended her best wishes to Ambassador Tallineau as she embarks on her three-year mandate in Seychelles. She also took the opportunity to share opportunities for the Ambassador to experience the beauty, culture, and heritage of the islands during her mission. Following the presentation of a token of appreciation, the fruitful meeting came to a close.
