The National Assembly of Seychelles wishes to inform the public that the current term, namely the 7th Assembly, will stand dissolved on Monday 29th September 2025, in accordance with Article 106(2)(b) of the Constitution of Seychelles:
Article 106
(2) The National Assembly shall stand dissolved –
(a) Subject to clause (3) on the day following the end of the period of five years referred to in clause (1);
(b) Where a general election is held before the period of five years referred to in clause (1), on the day next following the declaration of the results of the election; or
(c) In accordance with article 110 or article 111.
The Article provides for the National Assembly to be dissolved following the end of the five years for which it was elected or, if an election is held before the end of five years, on the day after the declaration of results of that election. The declaration of the results of the election as set in the 11th Amendment of the Constitution is expected to be on September 28th 2025, and therefore the dissolution of the National Assembly is now set for the 29th September 2025.
In the event that there is any change, the date of dissolution will be adjusted accordingly and announced as soon as practicable. In line with the principles enshrined in the 11th Constitutional Amendment, it is not expected that Article 110 (Dissolution by the President) or Article 111 (Dissolution by the National Assembly) will apply. Under Article 83(a) of the Constitution, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker shall remain in office until the newly elected National Assembly convenes for its first Sitting.
The National Assembly is, as of Thursday 7th August 2025, presently in Recess. The premises will be temporarily closed to the public due to the essential re-roofing and re-cabling projects. Members of the public who require the services of the National Assembly are kindly advised to contact staff via email or leave a message with the designated phone numbers as follows: Receptionist Ms. Samia Joseph (+248 2664025), Receptionist Ms. Vanessa Sinon (+248 2664130), and the Security Gate (+248 2661766). In-person visits or calls via office landlines will not be possible during the closure, as parliamentary operations will take place remotely.
During this Recess and dissolution period, the National Assembly Service will remain operational and ensure a smooth transition by supporting outgoing members, preserving parliamentary proceedings, and preparing for the incoming Members of the 8th Assembly. The National Assembly remains committed to ensuring that all constitutional processes are observed in full transparency; any changes or amendments will be communicated to the public, should they arise.
