On the morning of Thursday 10th July 2025, Mr. Samuel Atuobi led a delagation from the African Union (AU) conducted a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne. The Delegation comprised of Dr. Paul Aborampah Mensah, Ms. Thandeka Tatsvareyi, Mr. Justin Doua, Ms Claudia Masah and Mr. Tepera Chinemhute.
The meeting began with a brief introduction on the purpose of the visit, which forms part of their mission to assess the readiness of Seychelles ahead of the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for later this year. Mr. Atuobi explained that the team has been engaging with various stakeholders, including media houses. He then asked Hon. Speaker Roger Mancienne about the current political climate in the country. In response, Hon. Mancienne noted that elections in Seychelles are generally peaceful and calm compared to many other countries.
This was followed by a short overview of the National Assembly of Seychelles, including its structure and legislative frameworks. Hon. Mancienne also highlighted the electoral reforms implemented prior to the 2020 elections and commended the then newly established Electoral Commission for the leadership it demonstrated in successfully organising its first national election.
Discussions then shifted to the ongoing legislative amendments currently under review by Members of the Assembly. Hon. Mancienne was asked whether these amendments could have any impact on the upcoming elections, to which he responded that they are not expected to influence the current electoral process. Mr. Atuobi noted that post election they will conduct another visit to gather more information.
