On the morning of the Thursday 18th July 2024, the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne was presented with the Public Enterprises Annual Report 2022 from the the Public Enterprises Monitoring Commission (PEMC). Representing the PEMC was the Chairperson Mr. William Zarine, Ag. CEO Mr. Kalum Bandara, Principal Analyst Ms. Colette Jean-Louis, and Business Analyst Mr. Michael Gedeon.
The Speaker noted his appreciation and anticipation in reviewing the reports and the financial performance sections of the report in depth. Discussions on whether PEMC had adequate staffing to carry out all of their tasks took place, with the Ag. CEO clarifying that the reason for shortages are the discrepancies in remuneration between similar organizations. Despite this setback, the delegation emphasized that they are striving to strengthen their ability to more effectively oversee Public Enterprises. They also clarified that in order to assess the performers more accurately, they require an assured point of reference and robust benchmarking exercises.
The Speaker expressed his thanks to the delegation, noting the importance of such presentations in which organisations visit the National Assembly to present their reports and sensitize the legislature.
