The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC), chaired by the Leader of the Opposition Hon Sebastien Pillay, are preparing for a week of Public Hearings on the Report of the Auditor General for the Year 2022 to be held on Monday 6th to Friday 10th May 2024. Termed as Pre-Hearing briefings in parliamentary settings, the Committee will be hosting meetings with different concerned entities in order to gather information and prepare for the Hearings that will take place next week.

 

FPAC Meeting

 

The meeting, held on Monday 29th of April 2024, involved the participation of the Auditor General Mr. Gamini Herath and the Chairperson of the Government Audit Committee Mr. Patrick Pierre. Hon. Pillay as Chair of the meeting was accompanied by the Vice-Chairperson of the FPAC Hon. Terence Mondon, with assistance provided by the Committee Secretary and Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly Ms. Alexandria Faure.

The officials had the opportunity to share their expertise in public finance management with the Members and discussed mitigative proposals that will further enhance the working relationship between the two oversight organs and the FPAC. The issue of repetitive audit findings was highlighted by Hon. Pillay and Hon. Mondon, to which Mr. Herath and Mr. Pierre provided propositions on how these concerns can be addressed in the future.

The Committee will also plan to meet civil society and transparency initiative later on this week as a final preparatory meeting before the Public Hearings commence.
