On the evening of Friday 28th July 2023, the National Assembly hosted a cocktail Reception to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Parliament which occurred on the 30th of July. The reception was opened by the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne, who spoke of the promising future of the National Assembly, the important work done over the last 30 years, and gave a special thanks of appreciation to all persons and bodies who have served or engaged with the Assembly throughout its existence.

Following this was an address by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, His Lordship Rony Govinden, who gave an insightful view into the workings of the three branches of government as well as extending his felicitations to the Assembly for its achievements over the past three decades.

The final speaker was the President of the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan. The President began by thanking the Speaker Mancienne, Members, and staff of the Assembly for their tireless efforts in the effective continuation of the Assembly. Amongst other reminiscent affirmations, President Ramkalawan noted the liveliness of the debates in the House, which he hoped would continue to further the interests and needs of the people of Seychelles.

Following the addresses was the official launching of the National Assembly Time Capsule, which is set to be reopened in another 30 years, on the 60th Anniversary of the Assembly. Within the Time Capsule are letters written by the President, Hon. Mancienne, Chief Justice, Deputy Speaker Hon. Gervais Henrie, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Sebastien Pillay, Leader of Government Business Hon. Bernard Georges, Clerk of the Assembly Mrs. Tania Isaac, and the Deputy Clerk Ms. Alexandria Faure, as well as photographs of staff and other memorial items. This momentous ceremony was sealed with a group photo, and the cutting of the commemorative cake.

 

 

Ending the evening with spectacular performances were the Members and staff of the Secretariat who participated in the Cultural Show; poems, live music, and dancing were enjoyed by all, in celebration of this very special occasion.
