On the morning of Friday 30th June 2023, the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) met with officials from the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC). Members of the FPAC present were, the Leader of the Opposition and Chairperson of FPAC Hon. Sebastien Pillay, Vice-Chairperson Hon. Terence Mondon, Hon. Richard Labrosse, Hon. George Romain, and Hon. Conrad Gabriel. The PUC’s delegation comprised of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Joel Valmont, Deputy CEO Ms. Doreen Bradburn, Legal Officer Ms. Michelle Marguerite, and Procurement Director Ms. Noemie Chetty.

 

 

The first topic discussed concerned a report of the Ombudsman regarding the procurement and tender processes of desalination plants at the Providence Industrial Estate and Anse Boileau in 2017. Discussions also included insurance on the loss of armored cables and the recuperation of the losses incurred. The FPAC were informed that SCR1 million of the losses incurred has been recuperated.

 

 

Members were given the opportunity to pose pertinent questions and get clarifications on both topics.
