>The President of the Republic of Seychelles, H.E Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan delivered the Message on the State of the Nation Address, also known as SONA, at 17:00hrs.

This is the first SONA held within the newly renovated Chamber, therefore marking it as a historical moment for the President, the Speaker Hon. Mancienne and for the National Assembly.

The President began by extending his thanks to those in attendance and noting the hard work put in by Members of the National Assembly and Secretariat staff during the period of renovation that recently took place. An honourable mention was given to Speaker Hon. Roger Mancienne, for his election as President of SADC PF. The Address focused on elements of recent socioeconomic development, in industries such as tourism, fishing, environmental protection, border security such as the Travizory system, as well as the education and development of our youths. The President reaffirmed the need to continue the war against drugs and antisocial behaviour, and noted that he aspired to see a prosperous, democratic, and healthy Seychelles.

The replies to the Message will start on the 15th March 2023, starting with the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay, followed by the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bernard Georges. All other Members of the National Assembly will have an opportunity to respond subsequently.

Earlier on the same day, in accordance with Article 81 (1) (h) (i) of the Constitution of Seychelles, Hon. Wilbert Herminie, took his Oath as a new Proportionately Elected Member for the United Seychelles (US) party.
