The elected Member for St Louis Hon. Sathya Naidu has been elected to lead the United Cities and Local Government of Africa’s network of locally elected youth of Africa for the continent’s eastern region (UCLG).

On the 7th and 8th March 2022, the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) held its regional caucus for the Eastern Africa Region in Nairobi (Kenya) in collaboration with the Council of Governors (CoG) of Kenya.

The Caucus brought together the chairpersons and permanent secretaries of the national associations of subnational and local governments of East African countries, as well as the chairpersons of the country chapters of the Network of Female Mayors and Leaders of subnational and local governments of the Region and a representative of young elected officials aged of 35 and under. Amongst other aims, the caucus was also to establish the Network of Locally Elected Youth of Africa (YELO) with candidates from various African countries aged 35 years or under.

Hon Sathya Naidu was elected to lead YELO for the Eastern African Region. Hon. Naidu expressed that ‘it is an honor and privilege to be representing Seychelles in a role of leadership at the continental level.’

The Subnational and local governments associations of 8 countries out of the 11 countries of the region took part in the caucus. The caucus was held in preparation for the 9th edition of the Africa cities Summit scheduled from 17th to 21st May 2022 in Kisumu, Kenya.
