To commemorate Commonwealth Day, the Speaker of the National Assembly read out Her Majesty, the Queen’s Speech this morning while addressing the House. In the same spirit, the theme chosen by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) for this year is “Delivering a common future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming”

A small programme was planned for the day with the National Assembly’s Media Youth and Culture Committee (MYCC) collaborating with the first girl and the first boy to ever address the House, Ms. Shayanne Hoareau and Mr. Misael Bristol, for a tree planting activity in the Commonwealth Garden. This activity also involved the British High Commissioner of the UK in Seychelles, H.E Mr. Patrick Lynch, the Speaker Hon. Prea and other Members of the National Assembly.

The day’s events also saw the participation of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) cohort along with a group of students from the Perseverance secondary school who also got the opportunity to observe the sittings.
