The British High Commissioner to Seychelles, H.E Mr. Patrick Lynch met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Prea accompanied by the Deputy Clerk, Mrs. Tania Isaac yesterday afternoon.

The Speaker welcomed H.E Mr. Lynch to the National Assembly and proceeded to discuss several issues of common interests that currently exist between the two countries such as the promotion of democracy, tourism and educational development. Both dignitaries also discussed financial legislations especially the Anti-Money Laundering Act which is being brought before the House for further amendments.

The Speaker brought to light a few of the major plans and events that the National Assembly will undertake this year and how the Commonwealth aids in the development of the National Assembly of Seychelles through the institution’s participation in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

Both the High Commissioner and the Speaker agreed that it is important to keep the ongoing commitment between the two countries to continue enhancing and strengthening the bilateral and parliamentary relations.

H.E Mr. Lynch also paid a courtesy call to the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Wavel Ramkalawan and two Members of the International Affairs Committee (IAC).

Hon. Jean-Francois Ferrari and Hon. Flory Larue, of whom are both Members of the IAC were both present for the meeting with H.E. Mr. Lynch. They spoke of several important points such as the good relationship that the UK and Seychelles has in terms of its trading cooperation and the High Commissioner was also proud to state that Seychelles has been doing a great job at implementing and executing laws to ensure environmental sustainability.

H.E Mr. Lynch was accompanied by Mr. Matthew Harper, the Political Counsellor of the British High Commission to Seychelles.
