The Honourable Member Mr. Gerry Sopha was born on the 26th of September 1961 and is a resident of La Retraite. Following his progressive education on Mahe, he completed one year in the National Youth Service.
He began his career as an Accounts Officer in the Ministry of Finance, developing his skillset and competences. After a brief period in Montreal, Canada, he returned to Seychelles and entered the tourism sector in the security and enforcement field, holding positions from Security Officer to Chief of Security. During this time, Hon. Sopha participated and was qualified in security training, fire awareness training, and camera surveillance.
His most prevalent vocational role was that of a freelance journalist, where he wrote for publications and his own social media platform. Through this, Hon. Sopha found an avenue into politics. As the Constituency Clerk for the Beau Vallon District in 2011, and Central Committee Member for the Bel Ombre District under the United Seychelles Party, Hon. Sopha was an active writer on political issues, as well as a digital creator who published videos on nationally relevant topics. In 2015, he acted as Campaign Manager for the Independent Candidate Mr. Philip Boulle. Hon. Sopha also had the opportunity to participate as an International Observer of Elections in countries such as Zimbabwe and Malawi, engaging himself in the complexities and importance of transparent and efficient electoral processes.
Hon. Sopha was sworn in as a Proportionate Member of the 8th Assembly on Tuesday 28th of October 2025, for his first parliamentary mandate.
