In accordance with Article 92(1) of the Constitution of Seychelles, the President of the Republic of Seychelles H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles on Friday 10th April 2026 at 1700hrs.
The President commenced his discourse by addressing the prevailing global conflicts and their consequential impact on the national economy and the long‑term development of Seychelles.
In outlining the broader international context, the President identified escalating fuel prices and the sustained increase in the cost of living as the most significant global challenges, both of which are anticipated to have a direct effect on the nation. It was indicated that the public service will be instructed to exercise prudent management of resources through initiatives such as reduced electricity consumption, and work-from-home arrangements. The President further underscored the importance of collective responsibility, noting that incremental actions at the individual level contribute meaningfully to national resilience. Citizens are encouraged to moderate travel, exercise financial responsibility, and limit non-essential imports.
The Address also drew special attention to ongoing efforts aimed at sustaining and restoring global connectivity to Seychelles, in order to uphold the viability of the tourism sector and safeguard the mobility of Seychellois citizens. A special commendation was extended to the personnel involved in the repatriation of Seychellois citizens from the global diaspora, recognising their dedication in ensuring safe return flights. The President concluded the Address by calling upon the nation to remain calm in the face of the prevailing conflicts, and to rely on solidarity and national unity as the cornerstone for overcoming present and future challenges.
The Presidential Address was made available via livestream on the National Assembly YouTube Channel and broadcasted directly via SBC and TeleSesel. In line with accessibility measures, the Address was interpreted live in Lalang Siny Seselwa.
