The Office of the Deputy Speaker
In the absence of the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker shall preside over the deliberations of the Assembly and shall exercise the same authority as the Speaker.
The current Deputy Speaker is Hon. Egbert Aglae, who is also the Elected Member for the District of Port Glaud.

Biography of the Honourable Deputy Speaker
The Honourable Member Mr. Egbert Aglae was born on 18th May 1980 and is a proud father of two children. In 2001, Hon. Aglae completed his studies at the Ministry of Health Centre for Health Studies. In the pursuit of further studies, he achieved a Certificate in Pharmaceutical Dispensing and in Cytotoxic Reconstitution.
From 2002 to 2009, he was employed as a Pharmaceutical Technician for the Ministry of Health, where he dutifully served the national health sector. Hon. Aglae joined the political sphere in 2009, following his appointment as the Coordinator for the Parti Lepep Secretariat from 2009 to 2011. He was later appointed the District Administrator for the Port Glaud District, during which he pursued and achieved a Diploma in District Management.
In 2016, Hon. Aglae successfully secured a seat in the 6th National Assembly as a Member for the Port Glaud District under the Party Lepep Party. He was then re-elected in 2020 for the Port Glaud District under the United Seychelles Political Party. During the 7th Assembly, he was a Member of the Standing Orders Committee, the International Affairs Committee, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a Member of the L’Association des Parlements des États members de la Commission de l’ocean Indien (AP-COI), and was the Chairperson of the Committee on Communicable Diseases, HIV/AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights. One value that Hon. Aglae carries with him as an Honourable Member is discipline, believing that it keeps public servants grounded, calm, and composed.
Hon. Aglae was sworn in as a Member of the 8th Assembly on Tuesday 28th of October 2025, for his third parliamentary mandate.
