In accordance with Parliamentary procedure, the National Assembly of Seychelles has been officially opened by the Speaker, Hon. Roger Mancienne.

The Speaker led the ceremonial procession to mark the commencement of the 2024 Meeting of the Legislature. Hon. Mancienne expressed the support and solidarity of the National Assembly to those affected by the tragedy of the 7th of December 2023, and gave thanks to those who were actively engaged in providing aid and much needed assistance. The Hon. Speaker reiterated that the tireless work and efforts of the National Assembly is done under the principles of democracy, transparency, and good governance.

Following the protocol of the National Assembly, a tribute was dedicated to the Late Honourable Rosie Bistoquet, who passed away while still in Office. Speeches were given by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Gervais Henrie, the LDS Chief Whip Hon. Sandy Arissol, the US Chief Whip Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, Hon. Regina Esparon, Hon. Kelly Samynadin, and Hon. Egbert Aglae.

Before the tribute concluded, a family member of the late Hon. Bistoquet, Mr. Jude Bistoquet, entered the Chamber and was presented with a book of condolences by the Sergeant-at-Arms.

To conclude the ceremony, a group photograph was taken of the Hon. Members, and of the National Assembly Service Staff of the National Assembly, to commemorate the auspicious opening of Parliament.
