The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC), chaired by the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Sebastien Pillay, held their final preparatory meeting ahead of Public Hearings on the Report of the Auditor General for the Year 2022, from Monday 6th to Friday 10th May 2024.

The meeting, held on Friday 3rd May 2024, involved the participation of Mr. Chrystold Chetty, the Chairperson of Transparency Initiative Seychelles (TIS) and Mr. Alvin Laurence, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Citizens' Engagement Platform Seychelles (CEPS). Hon. Pillay as Chair of the meeting was accompanied by Hon. Georges Romain, Hon. Conrad Gabriel, Hon. Richard Labrosse, and Hon. Sandy Arissol. Providing assistance was the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and FPAC Secretary Ms. Alexandria Faure, and Second Secretary Ms. Shannon Surman.

The officials had the opportunity to share their experiences and their roles in good governance as civil society actors. Topics of discussion included fiscal transparency, adequate training and human resources in departments, as well as the importance of public engagement through civil society in national budgetary processes.

The Committee assured continued engagement in efforts of strengthening its relationship with civil society actors. This engagement is in line with the FPAC’s aims to integrate civil society, as a key stakeholder, in its fiscal oversight role.
