President H.E. Mr. Ramkalawan & First Lady

The President of the Republic of Seychelles H.E. Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan delivered the Message on the State of the Nation Address, also known as SONA, at 17.00hrs.

 

SONA 2024

 

The President discussed the status of the sociopolitical environment in Seychelles, noting that 2024 would see the introduction of more democratic and transparent principles in the case of General Elections and political participation. It was noted during the Address that there were positive developments in the tourism and agricultural sectors, as well as other developments in infrastructure nationwide. These developments also include digital advances and the creation of online portals which have the primary aim of improving the ease of business transactions and refining consumer experiences. Social welfare, the protection of children, and the improvement of the cost of living were also prominent points brought to the attention of the general public.

The Hon. Speaker Mancienne gave a message of thanks to President Ramkalawan for the Address, and also expressed his appreciation for the members of staff and personnel that contributed to the successful organisation of this national occasion.

The Replies to SONA will start on the 27th of February 2024, starting the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Sebastien Pillay, followed by the Leader of Government Hon. Bernard Georges. All other Members of the National Assembly will respond subsequently.

Preceding the State of the Nation Address, and in accordance with Article 81 (1) (h) (i) of the Constitution of Seychelles, Hon. Anne Simone Bistoquet and Hon. Rachel Spiro took their Oaths as new Proportionately Elected Members for the Linyon Demokratik Sesel (LDS) Party and United Seychelles (US) party, respectively.
