On the afternoon of Tuesday 12th September 2023, the newly accredited Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Abdi Mahamoud Eybe, paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne. In attendance was the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Gervais Henrie, and the Deputy Clerk Ms. Alexandria Faure.

H.E. Eybe remarked that he was fortunate to be visiting ‘paradise’ and was thankful to meet with the Hon. Speaker. He noted that Djibouti and Seychelles have much in common, and that this was a good time to begin discussions of bilateral cooperation with a particular focus on the fishing industry and maritime security. The Ambassador stated that much like Seychelles, Djibouti has struggled over time with issues of piracy and marine-security instability. However, despite such incidences, Djibouti is a largely peaceful and stable country with a growing service-based economy and an interest in the expansion of industrialisation and exportation.

The Hon. Speaker thanked the Ambassador, and responded that cooperation between the countries was welcome, and that maritime security was certainly a priority that Seychelles is taking seriously. Hon. Mancienne welcomed a partnership, noting that we share a region and must share our resources and expertise. The Deputy Speaker Hon. Henrie paralleled this by stating that as small as our countries are, we are an example of democratic stability in the region and must continue to act as examples for the continent.

The meeting concluded with the Hon. Speaker presenting Ambassador Eybe with a token of appreciation, and a souvenir photograph, before noting that he looked forward to the future partnership.
