Delegates of the Organization of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) assembled in Brussels from the 19th to 28th of June 2023. Seychelles was represented by Hon. Churchill Gill.

 

 

The sessions began on Monday 19th of June with a special session on the Rules of Procedures of the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA). Delegates exchanged views on the rules and considered amendments to the document. Discussions continued the following day, where delegates further considered amendments and reached consensus on wordings.

 

 

The Committee on Economic Development, Finance and Trade, of which Seychelles is a member, met on Wednesday 21st of June. Delegates expressed concern on the delay in signing the post-Cotonou agreement; a concern also expressed in earlier sessions of the OACPS JPA in February-March of 2023. The signing of the post-Cotonou agreement is of extreme importance, as any hesitation to do so threatens the existence of the JPA.

 

 

Following the 63rd Session of the OACPS Parliamentary Assembly on Friday 23rd of June 2023, the ACP-EU were sessions commenced. Seychelles was represented at meetings of the ACP-EU JPA Committee on Economic Development, Finance, and Trade held on Sunday 25th of June 2023 as well as conciliation meetings on urgent motions for resolution and the formal opening ceremony of the ACP-EU JPA held Monday 26th of June 2023.

 

 

Hon. Gill also attended the plenary session of the 43rd session of the ACP-EU JPA was held from Monday 26th of June to Wednesday 28th of June bringing a close to the sessions.
