The implementation of a partnership between the National Assembly Secretariat and the National Archives has come to fruition as we welcomed two National Archives Staff members, namely Mr. Evans Elizabeth, the Assistant Archivist Head of the Audio/Visual unit, and Mr. Georges Knowles, a Restoration Technician earlier this week. We are delighted to have them with us and share their wealth of expertise and knowledge in preserving and managing historical records, which will undoubtedly prove to be invaluable. They are tasked with converting roughly 1900 audio tapes, which contain verbatim recordings from the year 1993, into a digital format.

To keep up with the current times, the Information Centre of the National Assembly of Seychelles is making strides towards digitalization. Whilst the Parliament strives to achieve this aim a partnership with the National Archives has been forged. This kicked off when a delegation from the Archives came to the National Assembly on visit to view the parliamentary Archives to gain an understanding of the operations, and provide recommendations on how to proceed forward. Present at the visit were Ms. Alexandria Faure, the Deputy Clerk, Ms. Thelma Joseph, Information Centre Manager, and Ms. Petra Tirant, Documentation Assistant from The National Assembly. Additionally, Ms. Julienne Barra, the Executive Director, Mr. Terry Nibourette, Assistant Director of National Archives, Mr. Mervin Lajoie, Archivist, and Ms. Merna Crea, Assistant Archivist, all from the National Archives, were in attendance.

Thanks to this partnership, we will be able to gain access to the most advanced archival practices and techniques available, which will allow us to enhance our own archival processes. Moreover, we are excited to share our own experiences and knowledge with our counterparts at the National Archives, and thus, foster mutual growth and development. Our archives are crucial to us as a parliament and we believe that this collaboration will help us to improve its capabilities and preserve our collection for future generations.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress and the valuable contributions that our seconded staff member will make in our archives.
