On the afternoon of Thursday 23rd March, the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) met with the Minister of Employment and Social Affairs Mrs. Patricia Francourt. Accompanying Minister Francourt was the Principal Secretary of the Social Affairs Department Mrs. Linda William-Melanie.

 

 

Attending the meeting on behalf of the WPC was the Chairperson Hon. Regina Esparon, Vice-Chairperson Hon. Audrey Vidot, Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, Hon. Doyace Porice, Hon. Rosie Bistoquet, Hon. Desheila Bastienne, and Hon. Flory Larue. The Committee was accompanied by Mrs. Gulmette Leste from the Auditor General’s Office, and the Senior Legal Officer to the National Assembly Mrs. Imaan Toulon.

 

 

The Committee discussed various recommendations and constraints regarding the Domestic Violence Act, and raised points from the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence workshop held in 2022. Following this, a plan of action was made to improve the Model Law. The WPC looks forward to more productive, revisionary meetings in future, and thanked Minister Francourt for her time and invaluable input.
