The meeting continues the series of stakeholder discussions on the country’s child protection apparatus as well as gender-based violence (GBV), in order to enhance the caucus’ oversight and law-making roles. Consulting the Commissioner of Police and Mr Barbe was therefore imperative for the future of child protection beginning with improved legislation.

Discussions were focused around the reporting of child abuse cases to the police force, and particularly, the work of the Child Protection Unit who was represented in the meeting. Deficiencies within the police and judicial systems on matters of child abuse cases were discussed, giving the committee a better, well rounded idea of where improvements can be made. Engagement in the discussions were active and all parties reaffirmed their intentions to strengthen their mechanisms to allow for an enduring and cohesive national child protection mechanism.
