The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus which is chaired by Hon. Regina Esparon, met with CEO of the National Council for Children (NCC), Mrs. Yasmin Urmaji and Mrs Desiree Hermitte, Chief Counsellor of students support services of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday 29th September, 2021, at the National Assembly.

The meeting is part of a series of meetings held with different stakeholders with the aim of assessing the country’s child protection mechanisms and to gain a more comprehensive support on the country’s gender-based violence issues which overlaps with the subject of protecting children.

 

The discussions were fruitful and revolved around child abuse cases in schools and the community, as well as the effectiveness of the structures implemented by the NCC and the Ministry of Education to address these issues. Mrs. Umarji and Mrs Hermitte were very forthcoming about the work still to be done to enhance the country’s child protection tools.

The Honourable Members of the Caucus actively engaged in the discussions and all present were eager for further extensive and comprehensive collaboration in the future. Hon. Esparon was accompanied by the Vice-Chair, Hon. Audrey Vidot, Hon. Doyace Porice, Hon. Desheila Bastienne, Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, Hon. Kelly Samynadin, Hon. Rosie Bistoquet, Hon. Jany Letourdie and Hon. Noline Sophola.
