The Committee on Government Assurances headed by its Chairperson Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, held a meeting with the Industrial Estates Authority (IEA) on Thursday the 12th August 2021, based on the bulk infrastructure projects aimed at developing Zone 20 leading up to Zone 19 at Providence. The aim of the meeting was to review the stage of development of the projects and assurance made before the National Assembly in 2019.

The CEO of the IEA, Mr. Roy Collie held a presentation at the Seychelles Bureau of Standards (SBS), and present as well were other officials from the IEA, namely, Deputy CEO, Mr Barry Assary, Project Officer, Mr Wilven Alcindor, Consultant, Mr Antoine Pierre-Louis and Mr Michel Laporte from the Ministry of Lands and Housing (MLH). Once the meeting was done, the Members of COGA and members of the IEA went to visit the sites at Providence.

The said project under the contracting firm of Vijay Construction with a total of 49 million capital, started off in 2018 and was supposed to be completed by December 2020. Due to the liquidation Vijay Construction and legal procedures involved, the project has come to a halt, and with 60 % completion. The remaining development will be tendered out to other contractors in the near future.

By the end of the visit, the Chairperson of COGA, on behalf of all Members mentioned that they are quite satisfied with what they have seen so far and will be following up with officials of the IEA on new development as soon as the new contractor comes onboard.
