The National Assembly of Seychelles participated in the 48th  Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), held on the 4th and 5th December 2020.  The Virtual Plenary Assembly was hosted by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

 

Three Members of the Seychelles National Assembly, who are also Members of the SADC PF Committee, namely Honourable Rosie Bistoquet, Honourable Audrey Vidot and Honourable Richard Labrosse, took part in the event by videoconference.

The Members got the opportunity to listen to discussions arising from three Motions:

 

  1. Condemning Terrorist Attacks in the Republic of Mozambique and Expressing Solidarity with the Government and People of Mozambique
  2. Pan-African Parliamentary Voice Supporting the Global Campaign for Africa’s Debt Cancellation
  3. The Impact of the African Migratory Locusts on Agriculture and Food Security in Southern Africa

 

Other important matters of the Forum were also addressed which included the analysis of the Executive Committee Report on Financial Issues of the Forum, notification of the Draft Resolution on a matter of urgent and regional importance.

 

The main highlights of the event comprised of (1) the Oath of Adherence of SADC Parliamentarians taken by our Members, who were joining the Forum as new Members of Parliament for the first time, and (2) the election of a new Speaker and Vice Speaker of the SADC Parliamentary Forum for the period 2020/2022.

 

To note that the National Assembly SADC PF Committee is also made up of: Honourable Speaker Roger Mancienne, Honourable Kelly Samynadin and Honourable Rocky Uranie, who will be taking their Oath of Adherence as Parliamentarians of the Forum during the next Plenary Assembly - its 49th Edition.
