Present Location

The National Assembly, has for the past 15 years been located in a wing of the National Library Building in Victoria. On the 2nd February, 2007, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the former Speaker, Hon. Francis MacGregor with the Qingdao Architectural Design and Research Institute Co. Ltd for the designing of a new building for the National Assembly.

The Laying of the Foundation Stone

On Thursday 20th March, 2008, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Patrick Herminie, and the Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Geng Wenbing, laid the first foundation stone for the new building in a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic, Mr. James Michel, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the National Assembly and Members of the Diplomatic Corps. During the ceremony, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mrs. Marie-Nella Azemia and the President of the Shenyang Corporation, (the company responsible for construction of the new building) signed the contract for the Project.

During his speech, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Herminie said 'we are witness to an event of singular importance in the history of legislative development in Seychelles.' Click here for the Speaker's full speech.
