COMMITEE ON GOVERNMENT ASSURANCES OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY VISITS ANSE ETOILE DAY CARE CENTRE AND GLACIS SCHOOL

The Committee on Government Assurances (COGA) in the National Assembly carried out site visits to monitor projects being undertaken by Ministries, notably the Anse Etoile Day Care Centre and Glacis School. The visiting delegation was led by the Chairperson of COGA, Hon. Bernard Arnephy. The main purpose of the two site visits was to oversee the implementation of some projects in relation to assurances made in the National Assembly by the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development & Sports, Mr.  Vincent Meriton in March this year and response from the Ministry of Education following assurances made in Budget Address in 2014.

Officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development & Sports were present at the Anse Etoile Day Care Centre to provide information on the status of the work being carried out. The Special Advisor in the Community Development Department, Mr. Dan Frichot informed the Committee that the work on the facility is almost complete and that the project will be handed over to the Ministry of Education to carry out the process of tender for its management.

The delegation also visited the Glacis School where representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Land Use & Housing and Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Transport were also in attendance. The Principal Secretary for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Merida Delcy informed the Committee that the Ministry of Education plans to officially open the school in January, 2016 which will be preceded by a meeting with concerned parents and a tour of the school. However, there are still some outstanding work which will be completed after the school has become operational.

Members of the Committee expressed their satisfaction with the work being carried out at the two sites.

The Committee on Government Assurances is a Committee of the National Assembly mandated to scrutinize the assurances, promises and undertakings given by Ministers from time to time on the floor of the Assembly. These assurances are pronounced during Question Time, Statements and also presentation of Bills.
