First Head of State from Cabo Verde to visit Seychelles, addresses the National Assembly

His Excellency, President Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca addressed the House during an Extraordinary Sitting held in the morning of Tuesday 17th June, 2014. He reiterated the importance of increased cooperation between our nations so as to give voice to and address our shared concerns as small Insular States of the African continent, at international fora.

Prior to the Sitting, His Excellency met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Dr. Patrick Herminie. During their discussion, it was mutually agreed that parliamentary cooperation is a priority, complementing   the reciprocal sharing of best parliamentary practices.

During his address, His Excellency conveyed his appreciation for the warm welcome he had received by the Seychellois people and emphasized the value of learning from each other's past and present experiences with the aim of strengthening our young democracies, encouraging popular participation and advancing socio-economic development.

This visit heralds the beginning of a promising and long lasting relationship between the parliaments of the Republic of Seychelles and the African Island State of Cabo Verde.
