THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEETS WITH THE UCLGA DELEGATION

A delegation from the United Cities and Local Government of Africa (UCLGA) comprising of Mr. Khalifa Ababacar Sall – The Mayor Group Photoof Dakar and President of UCLGA, Mr. Abdelmounime El Madani – The Deputy Mayor of Rabat and Mr. Jean-Pierre Elong Mbassi – The Secretary General of UCLGA and accompanied by Mrs. Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, the Mayor of Victoria met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Patrick Herminie this morning and the Committee of the Association of the Districts of Victoria at the National Assembly on Wednesday 5th February, 2013 at the National Assembly.

PARLIAMENTARIANS PLEDGE TO COMBAT HUMAN TRAFFICKING

A joint meeting of Members of the National Assembly from the International Affairs Committee (IAC) and the Committee of Women Parliamentarians (CWP) today met with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, Dr. Joy Ezeilo at the National Assembly.

The delegation from the National Assembly was headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Andre Pool, who is the Chairperson of IAC.

During discussions with the Committees, Dr. Ezeilo urged Members to place human rights at the core of their legislative duties and to ensure zero-profits for the traffickers by putting in place the appropriate laws to criminalize trafficking of humans. Dr. Ezeilo stressed out the importance of Public Private Partnership and the coordination of all parties involved so as to ensure a sustainable fight against human trafficking.

SPEAKER ATTENDS THE 22nd CONFERENCE OF SPEAKERS AND PRESIDING OFFICERS OF THE COMMONWEALTH


The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Patrick Herminie attended the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), held in Wellington, New Zealand from 21st to 25th January, 2014.

The Conference which was officially opened by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Lt. Gen. the Right Hon. Sir Jerry Mateparae, saw the participation of over 50 Commonwealth jurisdictions. Held every two years, the Conference aims to maintain, foster and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments; promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms and develop parliamentary institutions.

speaker herminie presents copy of book to former speaker macgregoThe Vice-President, Mr. Danny Faure officially launched the book ‘the National Assembly of Seychelles – A Guide’ in a short ceremony held at the National Assembly building, Ile du Port, on Wednesday 04th December, 2013, in the presence of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Patrick Herminie.

Also to witness the ceremony were the former Speaker, Hon. Justice Francis Macgregor, the Designated Minister, Mr. Vincent Meriton, Ministers, Members and former members of the National Assembly, the Clerk, Ms. Azarel Ernesta, Members of the Youth Assembly, amongst other invited guests.
